About
My name is James (JD) Nichol. The father of two, wild, great kids.
I founded Bestchild.org as a means of gathering best practices in the area of parenting and education. I have two motives; first, I didn’t want to screw my kids up. (And I could have. Still can, but it will be tougher.) My second motive is to dispel some of the boatloads of BAD, misleading, misinformation that’s out there in the name of parenting. After researching for a while I couldn’t remain on the sideline and watch this junk pass.
The main site BestChild is a resource and collaboration between parents and child development professionals to vet ideas and best practices.
A FEW WARNINGS:
I openly steal ideas from histories greatest leaders, innovators and rebels.
I also borrow a good deal from other fields of interest, like: business, marketing, physics and the sciences. I attempt to apply what we know in principle to the arena of raising the next great generation. I also love to study the best available today on human development, psychology, education and child development.
This is not a site to pick out baby names or hear about how I balance work, personal life and family. That isn’t happening here.
A FEW PET PEEVES:
(1) Using the term “balance” to life is convenient but completely misleading
(2) Helicopter parents & Tiger Mothers – both are limiting their children, big time.
(3) Pseudo (junk) science
(4) Parenting sites that are mostly recipes, complaining and endless advertisements
I hope you think about visiting and looking at what we’re up to often. I promise to keep good information coming and put you in touch with the best experts in the field.
Thanks for your attention
JD (Jim) Nichol
PS. In all likelihood if I hadn’t decided to focus on being a better parent myself I would have been in the running for “Worst Dad of The Year” for many years. I am one of those people who really has to work on it.

Hi Jim,
I like what you have to say.
I have two kids (2 & 4) and too am looking to get as much of the best info on parenting that I can to limit the degree I screw them up.
My father and I manufacture a kids product which focuses on teaching conflict resolution for siblings and friends. The Pocket Referee has been in production for a year now and we’re just getting it out in front of people.
I’d love it if you gave us a look and let me know what you think. http://www.thepocketreferee.com
Thanks for doing what you do.
All the best,
Jennifer
I have tried multiple times to download the motivation program so I could look at it with my husband. Unfortunately, I continually get the error that I have not completed the “Name” field and it kicks me back to the beginning of the sales pitch. I also attempted to register for the site thinking that would help and it kicked me over to this page. Finally, I attempted to follow the “contact us” link and got an error. Is this all just a fluke?
Way back in September you left a comment on my blog BestChildBlog.org and you were asking for my help to get a download of the free report on motivating kids. I want you to know that I’m sorry the response was never properly sent – it’s been sitting in my out box and got lost. I am so sorry. I would like you to have a copy of the book and workbook, they are listing on Amazon in a few days for 29.95 and 17.95, but I would like to give them to you if you want them.
Just reply to this email and I’ll send you a link to download them.
Again, I am sorry the original message with the free download was never sent.
